tatu metsätähti and tatu peltonen formed their electro duo mr velcro fastener in the small town of turku, finland back in 1995. in 1999, after a couple of twelve inches, they released their first full length album ‘lucky bastards living up north’ on i220, which was well noted (not only for its hyper colourful cover art by the designers republic). the album took the duo touring in europe and overseas, and led to further releases on labels like stars-music, ali b’s air recordings, solina records, cyber dance and of course billy nasty’s electrix, as well as remixes for the likes of hardfloor, marco carola, dk8, transparent sound and aux88. returning to electrix with their third full ep for the label (and a gap of 13 years!) they have delivered their own unique and recognizable electro sound with two new cuts. ‘a monster in two worlds’ with its electro-funk sound, classic vocoded vocals and grinding groove is a perfect opener, while ‘bakteriofag’ (bacteriophage in english) like its name, creeps up like a virus, infecting the senses with its crisp and shining melody. additionally, there’s remixes of ‘a monster in two worlds’ from silicon scally (carl finlow in his electro guise) and m-twelve (the new moniker recently launched by billy nasty and surface’s nick dunton) to complete the line-up.

reissue of balearic gem spanglish movement from little known band hot pepper! originally released as a private pressing in 1978 and featuring famous drummer jesus munoz tilico, a giant musician who appeared on countless recordings and accompanied famous figures like paul mauriat and carl tjader among many others. four superb long tracks including the cosmic underground club classic ritual song. hot pepper was a studio project created by mexican drummer / producer /arranger jesus munoz tilico who in the late 70s decided to record an album in a disco-funk vein, helped by some of his friends who were top session musicians. “spanglish movement” was the result, written and produced by “tilico”, released in 1978 as a tiny private edition housed in a fabulous afro cover. being tilico an enormous drummer, you can expect here lots of heavy drums, congas and percussion, surrounded by crazy space synths, male-female vocals, latin horns, afro touches and occasional fuzz guitar.

limited edition of 2000 copies on transparent blue 180 gram vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve. the electronic music duo groove armada released their fourth album “lovebox” in 2002. the album includes some of their best tracks, ramping through genres from rock ’n’ roll to the psychedelica and ska. it also features collaborations with artists like neneh cherry and richie havens, who ads some soulful voices to the whole. opener “purple haze” introduces us to a giant guitar riff and highlight “madder” takes the groove out of the clash’s “magnificent seven”, before moving on to the raps by m.a.d. they’re incorporating a lot of samples in the fine structured melodies of soul/funk/rock and hip-hop. after playing at club nights for years andy cato and tom findlay joined forces and created their debut album northern star and breakthrough hit “at the river”. it was the start of a collaboration that brought them hits like “my friend” and “superstylin’”.
